Old Denfeld
high school

Denfeld is a high school rich in tradition, this is where Helen, Marvin, Margaret, Dorothy, Don and Phyllis attended to school, along
with many other family members not mentioned!

Denfeld is Western Duluth's first high school, though it wasn’t always called Denfeld. The first classes were held at Irving School, 101 N. 56th Ave. W., on Sept. 11, 1905. For several years it was known as Duluth Industrial High School.

When United States Steel announced its intentions to build the Morgan Park neighborhood as a planned community for its steel plant, the Duluth School Board spent $175,000 to build a new, independent high school. In 1915, Robert E. Denfeld High School opened at 725 N. Central
Ave.

The building currently serving as Denfeld High School opened at 4405 W. Fourth St. on Sept. 8, 1926. It cost $1.25 million.

Engaged!

Jodi Hallsten (granddaughter of Dorothy Hallsten) received “the best birthday gift ever” on her recent 35th birthday: an engagement ring!  Her fiancé is Steve Lyczak, a captain at Northwest Airlink (Mesaba Airlines).  The couple have not yet chosen a date, but plan to get married in Europe and return to the states for “a really big party.”  Congratulations Jodi and Steve!

Hope everyone enjoyed themselves at the Family Reunion!  I really miss Duluth and I know my wife would like it up there.  She's never been to Minnesota.

Hope all is well....

6000 MILES OF FUN!

David and I went on a long journey this summer. We packed the tent and the dogs and took off in his Dodge diesel truck and went 6000 miles through 23 states in 23 days. Since we weren’t on a time frame, we were able to see things we wanted. We left Florida to travel to Santa Fe, New Mexico, up to Salt Lake City, Utah, where David floated in the Great Salt Lake and we visited our daughter Nicole and her family.  Then we were off to Montana in the mountains across Highway 2 through North Dakota then across to Duluth for a few days visiting family. Sorry I missed some of you at grandma’s place for coffee.  We then headed to Chicago to visit David’s brother
where he surprised us with two tickets to the Eric Clapton guitar and blues festival, an all day event. Then we headed to Chattanooga, Tennessee, where it is absolutely beautiful, and then we finally went home. We only slept in the tent and, did I mention, only at KOA because they have showers. We had an air mattress to sleep on and a power inverter for electricity for the TV and fan. So yes, we roughed it. If anybody ever gets down this way to Cape Coral, Florida, look us up.  We have plenty of room!
